Welcome to the 1st International Lignin Symposium in Sapporo 2019!
This Symposium (the 1st ILS) will be held at Sapporo, Japan, on September 13th to 15th, 2019.The main venue will be the Frontier Research in Applied Sciences Building, Hokkaido University.
The Lignin Symposium itself, as a domestic academic conference in Japan, started in 1956. The year 2019 falls on the 64th anniversary of this annual symposium. We have just officially established The Lignin Society as an academic community and decided to hold the launching conference as the 1st ILS, together with the 64th Lignin Symposium, in Sapporo, Japan.
The ILS widely covers both basic and applied sciences of lignin. Papers are called for all over the world and the attendees range from professional experts to students who have just started to study in the research field in lignin-related sciences. Those who attend the ILS can exchange the knowledge on the state-of-the-art science and technology. We believe the ILS will provide you with a good opportunity to have better future perspectives.
Topics of the 1st ILS includes:

- 2) Biosynthesis and biodegradation of lignin
- 3) Lignin derivatives
- 4) Chemical and microbial conversion of lignin
- 5) Genetic manipulation for lignin modification
- 6) Industrial application of lignin
